- Ikigai (reason for being) is a Japanese concept that refers to something that gives a person a sense of purpose, a reason for living. The Japanese believe that anyone can have ikigai. Finding it requires deep and sometimes rather long self-searching . This search for oneself is considered very valuable, because it is based on the belief that the finding brings with it a sense of the meaning of life and the joy of living as such. When painting this painting, the artist Dāvids Jānis Baumanis was inspired by this philosophy by depicting the sun in the painting. Mountains, difficulties - behind which open spaces, opportunities for fantasy.
